School Policies

Uniform Policy

A Uniform Policy for the Montebello Unified School District was approved on February 25, 1997.  The policy is supported by the staff, parents and community of Washington Elementary and the school safety committee as a part of a SAFE SCHOOL PLAN. This policy will help Washington Elementary maintain an effective and safe learning environment as well as contribute to the idea that school is a serious learning place and a cohesive morale builder. Policy 5132.1

PROHIBITED CLOTHING (Uniform and Non-Uniform)

  • All clothing must be the appropriate size. No oversized shirts, pants or sweatshirts.  Shirts and blouses should cover stomach and lower back.  No spaghetti straps or low cut attire.  Parents will be called to bring appropriate clothing or students will be asked to turn shirts inside out if deemed necessary when students' attire violates the dress code.
  • Shirts/Blouses: No Graphic Tops.  Boys and girls need to wear solid colored shirts or blouses. The following is allowed: T-shirts/tops that contain the Washington Elementary logo, Move-a-thon, Reading Incentive, Stomp out Bully T-shirt on Mondays, University/College t-shirts/shirts on Fridays. Also striped and plaid shirts are acceptable as part of the dress code.
  • Pants: Pants or jeans must be either blue, black, or khaki and jeans must be dark blue.  Colored jeans are not allowed. No baggy pants or hip huggers. Pants must fit boys and girls at the waist without a belt. 
  • Shoes.  Boys and girls need to wear comfortable shoes, no high heels, sandals or open toe shoes.  Shoes should be laced up. No heelies (shoes with wheels).
  • Headgear of any type is not allowed including wearing hoods from sweatshirts and sweaters during school hours.
